River Bridge Diorama

BY JULIAN SAXTON

This is a project to tryout scenic building technics, with inspiration taken from the Welsh narrow gauge railways.

The scale is NG7, this is narrow gauge modelling at 7mm to 1ft and in this case a track gauge of 16.2mm.

The baseboard 40″ x 20″ is built using 10mm twinwall polycarbonate sheet supported on a frame made with 25mm aluminium angle and edged with ply. Plastikard and wood strips make the bridge and craft foam the landscape, which was covered with paper/pva and Sculptamold. The track is built using Karlgarin code 82 FB rail, L & B chairs and wood sleepers.

Bridge abutments are made from craft foam and Das modelling clay then painted with oil paints. Ground cover is static grass and various stone ballasts. Trees are florist wire covered with artex/pva/paint mix and seafoam, then sprinkled with scatter material. the pictures below show progress at various stages.

Although work on the scenery is still to be finished more layout boards are being planned.
