The loco is being build from a Gladiator models etched brass and nickel silver kit and Slaters wheels with an MSC motor and gear box. For the first time ever I have decided to build the loco first, usually I build the tender first as ti gives you a good indication of how the kit goes together, The loco has some together well, most of the etch work is complete just some overlay and beading details to add, next up will be the tender and then back to the loco for the castings, plumping and detailing ………….

71001 ‘Duke of Wellington’
A while ago my son showed me a photoshop image of a standard class 8 locomotive in British Railways express passenger blue livery. A fair few years ago I started a project to build an O gauge model of every standard class loco which I have done with various variations such as tenders and the Crosti 9F for example. Anyway the expression passenger blue livery looked really good so why not build a ‘may have been?’
I managed to pick up an old Acorn kit for Duke of Gloucester for a good price, and work started, the kit it basic and has needed various modifications but I am nearly there ! Here are some photos of the build so far. The loco is running and has completed a few laps of our club test track. The next steps are to finish the pipping and then to paint. Once complete I will update with some more photos.

6851 ‘Hurst Grange’
I am gradually ticking off building GW/WR 4-6-0 locos, just a couple of class to complete now ! The latest in the build is a Grange class and to fit in with building local engines I have chosen 6851 ‘Hurst Grange’. The loco is built from a Warren Shepherd brass kit which has gone together well, the loco have completed a few laps of our club test track and is nearly finished, I just have some plumbing and the blackhead to complete before the black paints hits it ! Here are some photos of the built process …………..

This an another might have been built from a mad moment ! I managed to pick up a cheap ready to run US chassis for a switching loco, I have used the same chassis before for the basis to built an S160, anyway the idea here is a Southampton dock tank that might have been ! With the boat trains getting heavier some bigger locos might have been needed !?! The chassis has been shortened and the body scratch built from plastic waste pipe, brass and bits and bobs from the spares box, so far the only item I have has to buy are the buffers and a dcc chip.
The loco is almost complete just waiting for a delivery of transfers.

This is a mix of scratch build and unknown parts, I purchased a bag of its at a show last autumn with no real identification! Originally I thought the parts would make a Fairburn tank but once home and the bag of bits were inspected with some research the parts are for a 2 cylinder tank loco.
The body had been started, I have completed the superstructure….. details like hand rails, lamp irons and some pipping need completing.
The chassis is another game ! I have had to fabricate cylinders, used some motion brackets from the spares box and with the valve gears items in the bag have made a rolling chassis.
With some more work a complete loco, if a little basic is coming along and even after buying a motor it will not have cost me £80 ! A bargain, just a few hours work and some paint.
