British HO

By Alan Monk

H0 scale North British Warship D844 Spartan.

Started off as a green Fleischmann RTR dating from the mid-1970s. After a stripdown and clean, I replaced the chunky rtr wheels with Alan Gibson finescale 10.5mm disc wheels. The Swindon-style exhaust ports were filled and new NBL ports drilled out.

I also lowered the model to the correct buffer height and replaced the battered rtr buffers with turned brass ones. Kadee couplers were also fitted.

The loco is finished in a very weathered BR maroon with full yellow ends and plenty of patch painted panels, all based on a photo of the real Spartan at Worcester Shrub Hill in 1970. The decals and 3D-printed nameplates are from Railtec.
